READING AND WRITING NUMBERS

For convenience in reading large numbers, the figures are generally separated by commas into groups of three figures each, called periods.

The first period, counting from the right, is units; the second, thousands.

The following table shows the arrangement of these periods, and the three orders of figures in each period:

WRITING NUMBERS

Express in figures :

1. Forty-two thousand.

2. Sixty-six thousand four.

3. Seventy-five thousand fifty.

4. Thirty-nine thousand one hundred twenty-two.

5. Two hundred ten thousand three hundred fifty.

6. Five hundred sixty-five thousand one hundred.

7. One hundred twenty-five thousand.

8. Six hundred thousand thirty-five.

9. Nine thousand twenty-six.

ROMAN NUMERALS

1. Write the Roman number for:

20, 25, 32, 48, 16, 50, 57.

2. LX = 60. LXX=70. LXXX = 80. Write the Roman numbers from 50 to 70.

3. C=100. CC=200. XC=90. XCIX = 99. Write the Roman numbers from 70 to 100. Write 210, 290, 299, 300, 349, 235, 341. Read XCII, CIX, CCXL, CCXCIX.
