L. to obtain accounts and intelligence of the fhips of war of our faid lord the king which fhould fail from Spithead aforefaid, and of the times of failing, and of the names, force, and deftination of fuch fhips of war, and alfo of the arrival at Spithead aforefaid of fuch fhips of war of our faid lord the king, as fhould be in the harbour of Portfmouth aforefaid, and the ftate, condition, and force of fuch fhips, and of the times when fuch ships should fail, and the deftination of fuch fhips, and to communicate fuch accounts and intelligence to the faid defendant, in order that the faid defendant might fend fuch accounts and intelligence to the fubjects of the faid French king, then and yet being enemies of our faid prefent lord the king; and the jurors aforefaid, upon their oath aforefaid, further prefent, that during the faid war, J. on the faid fifth of June, in the twenty-first year aforefaid, at the parish aforefaid, in the county of Middlefex, he the faid defendant, as fuch falfe traitor as aforefaid, and in further profecution of his treason, and treasonable purposes aforefaid, falfely, wickedly, and traitorously did retain him, and employ the faid H. And the faid jurors of our faid prefent fovereign lord the king, upon their oath aforefaid, further present that an open and public war, on the eleventh day of January, in the twentieth year of the reign of our faid fovereign lord George the Third, &c. and long before, and ever fince, hitherto, by land and by fea, was and is yet carried on and profecuted by Louis the French king, against our moft ferene, &c. well knowing the premifes, nor having the fear of God in his heart, nor weighing the duty of his allegiance, but being moved and seduced by the inftigation of the devil, as a falfe traitor, and against our moft ferene, &c. and contriving, and with all his ftrength intending the common tranquillity of this kingdom of Great Britain to difquiet, moleft, and difturb, and the government of our faid lord the king of this kingdom of Great Britain, to change, fubvert, and alter, he the faid defendant during the war aforefaid, on the faid eleventh day of January, in the twentieth year aforefaid, and on divers other days and times, as well before as after that day, with force and arins, at the parish aforefaid, in the faid county of Middlefex, unlawfully and traitorously was adhering, aiding, and comforting, the faid Louis the French king and his fubjects, then being enemies of our faid prefent fovereign lord the king, and in profecution, performance, and execution of the faid traitorous adhering of the faid defendant to the faid Louis the French king, and his fubjects, then being enemies of our faid prefent fovereign lord the king, he the faid defendant as fuch falie traitor, during the war aforefaid, to wit, on the faid eleventh day of January, in the twentieth year aforesaid, at the parifh aforefaid, in the faid county of Middlefex, falfely, wickedly, and traitorously did compofe, and caufe to be compofed, and wrote divers letters and inftructions in writing, to fhew and inform the faid French king and his fubjects, then and yet enemies of our faid prefent fovereign lord the king, of the ftate, condition, and force of feveral ships of war of our faid lord the king, and of the number of the fhips and forces of our faid lord the king, then and there defigned and prepared for the defence of this kingdom, and the enemies of the faid kingdom to attack, repel, and refift, and how fome of the fhips of war of our faid lord the king were furnished with provifions, and of the ftations of divers fquadrons of fhips of war of our faid lord the king, employed in profecuting and carrying on the faid war, and the names of the commanders of fuch fquadrons, and the number and force of the fhips of war, of which fuch fquadrons confifted, and also the service in which divers other fhips of war of our faid lord the king were then employed, in profecuting and carrying on the faid war, and alfo the number and force of the hips of war of our faid lord the king, within certain parts of this kingdom, and the ftate and condition of feveral of the faid fhips, and of the number of land forces of our faid lord the king in this kingdom, and the dominions thereunto belonging, and of the times of failing of divers fhips of war of our faid lord the king, and the destination of the faid fhips, and the services on which fuch fhips were employed,

B.
